ITP - About National Trust

National Trust
The National Trust was founded 125 years ago by three people:
Octavia Hill
Robert Hunter
Hardwicke Rawnsley

The National trust aims to protect and care for special places so people and nature can thrive for generations to come. They are Europe’s largest conservation charity.
They have millions of members, volunteers and staff that support them in what they do.

Octavia Hill, Robert Hunter and Hardwicke Rawnsley pledged to preserve historical and natural places. Their aim was not only to save important sites, but to open them up for everyone to enjoy.

They help us care for:
- Over 780 miles of coastline
- More than 250,000 hectares of land
- Over 500 historic houses, castles, parks, and gardens
- Nearly one million works of art

They have places across the nation, from Lizard Point in Cornwall, to Lindisfarne in Northumberland and Florence Court in Northern Ireland.

They are also working to open up city landscapes to encourage nature back into urban areas, partnering with councils and other organisations to achieve this.
They also offer holidays houses so that people can stay in or near places that are protected by them. It allows people to really engage with their surroundings and stay for a longer amount of time.
